Hello Reader, We were moving along, doing an exercise we’ve done a zillion times, when all of a sudden there was a fissure. Something cracked open, and my student stopped, tears in her eyes. "I don’t know what’s happening," she said. "I don’t know why I’m crying." ✨ By the way — this happens all the time. ✨ If you’ve ever cried in a movement class, you are not alone. I’ve been witness to it since my very first days of teaching. To me, these moments are really special. It means something deep is ready to move. We’re not forcing it. We’re not digging for it. We’re allowing it to come. 🕊️ This is a place for pausing. In these moments, I can feel myself shift into deep resonance, regulation, and stillness. It’s not about fixing or pushing through. What wants to be shared, witnessed, tended? My student recalled a memory of an old horseback riding injury and a place where trust had been broken— something from so long ago she had almost forgotten. She didn’t know why it was surfacing now. I asked what she wanted to do with it. Was there a movement, a breath, an image she wanted to share? She said, “It’s passed. Feeling it, sharing it, that was all I needed today.” So we tried the exercise again. She laughed. “It feels easier somehow,” she said. 💜 I didn’t always have the skills to navigate these moments and it certainly wasn’t taught in any Pilates training I ever did. But along the way, I dove into nervous system health, integrative somatic trauma therapy, and mind-body coaching. Now, in moments like these, I feel deep gratitude to be present, to hold space, and to offer care. So whether you’re invested in aligning your body, mind, soul, or the trifecta — I’m here to guide and support.
And until next time, take very good care. P.S. There is still space in my Beginner Pilates series this September if you’re looking for 6 weeks of committed action. **Not sure why you're getting this email** You likely signed up to receive communication from Radiant Effect. Radiant Effect has changed to Wise Moves With Meg. I'm so glad you're here! ia are |
Hello Reader,You know, I’ve always been a little bit on the fringe. Growing up, my friends would definitely describe me as the “weird one.” When I was first learning to teach movement, I knew I needed a special kind of teacher. I didn’t fit the mold of what Pilates teachers looked like back then (20 years ago). I didn't really care about my lineage back to Joseph Pilates. I loved nuance and detail but wasn’t interested in perfection. I was a yogini who found spirituality no matter what the...
Hello Reader,Your core is more than just muscles coordinating. It’s the centre of your being—the place where you align not only with yourself but also with the world around you. For many, awareness of this place is limited, both physically and spiritually. And if the word spiritual makes you want to hit eject, hold tight. A while back, I shared a newsletter on different types of awareness: intercorporeality, proprioception, exteroception, and interoception. These aren’t “woo” concepts. They...
Hello Reader,I’ve been thinking about longevity and it’s less “someday when I’m old” and more: what helps me move with strength and ease right now—and for all the years ahead. And I don’t just think about my own body, I think about the people I love too. What keeps us strong and steady enough to enjoy the lives we want to live, at every age? Here are 3 movement markers that research connects to a longer, healthier life: 1. Balance👉 Test it: Can you stand on one leg for 10 seconds without...
